Quality of life through quality of movement

Pilates For Men

Pilates is a great form of exercise for both men and women, but what many don’t appreciate is that it is a form of exercise originally designed by a man for men.

We have many men who attend our classes, which are all mixed gender. We also run a specific men’s beginners course which we call “Absolute Beginners”. This course will take you from the basic principles of Pilates through the essential level exercises building week on week, finalising with an introduction to some of the more intermediate work.

On completion you should be well prepared to join a class in our regular timetable. For more information call 01737 765335 or email rob@body-torque.co.uk

Modern lifestyles and workplace habits often dictate that we  repeat the same or similar movement patterns or indeed sit for long periods of time at a desk or whilst driving. This can have a negative impact on posture due to muscle imbalance, weakness/stiffness and inflexibility.

Pilates exercises, performed properly, improve posture by strengthening muscles including those that stabilise the spine and therefore help reduce back/joint pain. Once you have mastered the technique, Pilates exercises taught correctly will give you a full body workout. The exercises may well target muscles or movement patterns you might choose to avoid through your normal exercise regime; as we often do what we are good at and not necessarily what we need to focus on, thereby giving you a more balanced body and improved movement quality.

Many professional and semi-professional sportsmen supplement their training with Pilates (cross training) because they understand the importance of injury prevention (pre-hab rather than re-hab), and know that if their body moves well it will perform better and with less effort and less chance of injury.

Benefits of Pilates:

  • Improved joint mobility, reducing risk of injury
  • Improved skeletal alignment
  • Improved flexibility, posture and movement quality
  • Improved core & spinal stability
  • Increased lung capacity through better breathing
  • Improved circulatory & lymphatic systems
  • Reduce stress and lower blood pressure
