Quality of life through quality of movement

Tuesdays at Bell Street Studios proves a great sucess

Having recently moved our Tuesday mornings Pilates classes to the Bell Street Studios in Reigate, we have received lots of positive comments from the class attendees. This hasn’t surprised us though, as the studio is perfect, it’s freshly decorated, has its own kitchen and toilet facilities, and a laminated floor ideal for Pilates Matwork classes.  The Studio is cleaned every day, so is always ready to welcome you; warm in the cold weather and air conditioned to create a pleasant atmosphere in the summer months. The studio room is situated at the back of the building away from the noise and traffic of Bell Street, with a pleasant outlook over open land, fields and trees.

There are also new class times for the Tuesday sessions, starting with Intermediate Pilates at 09.00, more convenient for those dropping off at the local schools before attending class. We then have our beginners Pilates at 10 am,  finishing with  improver’s Pilates at 11.00, ideal for those wanting a  gentle class, or those moving up from beginners. The earlier start and finish times mean you get your Pilates session in and still have plenty of time to get on with your day, or enjoy lunch with your friends.

Why not come and see the studio for yourself and tell us what you think?

Old Reigatian Rugby Club Venue change due to Fire

You may have already heard on the grapevine that the Old Reigatian Rugby Club was badly damaged by fire in the early hours of Saturday morning and will not be useable for the foreseeable future.

We have been able to secure the Betchworth Village Hall for our classes on Monday 30th June and 7th July, with the option to continue at Betchworth through the summer course.  There will need to be a slight change to timings with the 1830 class moving to 1900 and the 1930 and 2030 class moving to 2000.

Please let us know if you have any queries or would prefer to switch to a different class.

Metafit Hot Stick

Great turnout for Metafit on Saturday morning, despite the early start we had a full class, so great atmosphere!

I gave everyone the choice of workout between “Weird Fish” and “Hot Stick” we decided on a workout with a finisher, and wow what a tough finisher it was, alternating between two step dash and two step side shuffle, non stop!

Our HOT STICK exercises where:

Take Downs
Press-up circles
Borrower Squats
Squat Thrusts
Sprints
Burpees
Plank
Side Lunge

Everyone work really hard, especially on the sprints where we all faced each other no none wanting to be the first to quit!

A special well done to Ruth, who was attending her first Metafit session!

Excellent work guys, and as always get emphasis on technique.

Body-Torque Fit!

A year or so ago I tried to get a list together of any of our clients who might be interested in taking part in local-ish sporting events, primarily as a way of helping motivate and push them (albeit gently) to improve their fitness and achieve something they have either always wanted to do, or perhaps felt unconfident of trying on their own. Unfortunately due to one thing and another, it has taken a while for the plan to come to reality. That said, a couple of weeks ago, a few of us a successfully completed the 7-Oaks Triathlon. Now I want to get an idea who is interested in hearing about similar events, races and training opportunities that might help you achieve your personal goals, whatever they may be. If you are interested or you have a partner or family member who might be interested, please respond to this message letting me know the sort of thing you’d like to do, or have booked yourself into, so we can let others who might like to join you know about the event.

Reigate 1/2 Marathon:
Body-Torque have entered a team for the inaugural Reigate 1/2 Marathon on 21st September 2014!

I’ve signed up to run and hope not to be alone, I have therefore created Team Body-Torque, the idea is that we can get together to do some training and perhaps find partners to share run sessions with, making the training process more enjoyable! Remember this can also be partners or family members. I also plan to set up a forum where you can ask questions about running and training and get answers form those more experienced at this distance. If you have already entered the race, or would like to, you can join our team by clicking the link below and entering this code in the team section; GJ0C08e61E  if you’re already registered you can still join us by going back into the registration section and adding the code.

There will be a big health and fitness show as part of the race held in Priory Park, and we plan to have a stand there! Danielle has bravely offered to man the stand on the day, forgoing the opportunity to run the 13.1 miles! No doubt she would welcome your support on the stand if you, like her, are a supporter not a runner.

Redhill Triathlon 27th July 2014
This year also see the first Redhill Triathlon, to be held at Mercers Park in Merstham. This will be a true triathlon, with competitors starting together in an open water swim in the beautiful lake, then a bike ride, finishing with a run around the lake.

SWIM 750m BIKE 20K RUN 5K

If you’re unfamiliar with open water swimming, then no problem, there are lots of courses to  help with confidence and it’s now possible by joining Tri-Surrey (£40) to swim at the same lake that the race is using! Let me know if you’re interested and I can give you details.

I plan to enter this event along with some other events, which I’ll list and send out in a later e-mail, so again let me know if this race appeals to you.

7-Oaks Triathlon race report.

7-Oaks Triathlon race report.
27th April 2014
400m-Swim     27k-bike     8k-run

I thought some of you might be interested to know how the 7-Oaks Triathlon went last Sunday.

After signing up for the race a few suffered injuries which prevented some from participating on Sunday, notably Madeleine, who had done a lot of training; and was probably the best prepared out of all of us; particularly on her swim which I’m sure would have see her achieve a great split time. It was a real shame she wasn’t able to attend; and those of us who were “lucky” enough to be there did comment and sympathise with those who had to withdraw.

12 years ago, I completed this same race in my first year in triathlon; my memory of the event had faded somewhat; and whilst I remembered the odd hill or two, on Sunday it seemed that we where either going up hill (a lot) or down hill (a little), but nowhere was it flat. Then add a bit of rain and it was truly a challenging event, longer than your average sprint distance triathlon, and approaching Olympic distances on the bike and on the run. Although it was wet the rain came and went and we finally got some welcome sunshine on the run. Thankfully there wasn’t the wind that we had seen on the Saturday, so conditions could have been worse. Katie, competing in her first ever triathlon, had an early start being one of the first off at 6.30am. This meant being at the event to register at 6am, Rob (also doing his first triathlon) and I, started together later around 08.30.

We warmed up with a pool swim of 16 lengths (400m) then a short run took us outside the sports centre (which was refreshing) to the transition area in the car park, having previously laid out our kit it was a quick (as possible) switch to bike gear, shoes, helmet, and jacket; run to the bike mount area, and then away from the sports centre for a pleasant rolling 15 miles (27km) bike ride through some extremely picturesque countryside. On return to the transition area we racked our bikes, discarded our helmets etc, and slipped on our running shoes for a Sunday jog around KnollPark, 5 miles (8km) of splendid parkland, home to wild deer who didn’t seem phased by 400 odd runners invading their home. Rob really showed his strength on the run with an impressive split of 40.33.  A ridiculously steep run down to the park from the transition area meant we had to look forward to an equally ridiculously steep climb back to the finish line, but it was worth it. Crossing the finish makes all the effort worthwhile, we received finishers’ medals and had our pictures taken, not looking our best but happy to have crossed the line, the time didn’t matter, we knew we had tried our best, and had succeeded!

Overall we had a great day despite the damp start, both Katie and Rob got personal bests for their first triathlon, and we all had a great experience, we must thank the friendly members of 7 Oaks Tri club who organised and marshalled the event on the day and did their best to make the race such a success, and to the crowd and other race competitors’ who supported everyone along the way.

Metafit combat matrix

Well done to those of you who attended today’s 07.50 Metafit interval training session in Reigate (Bell St Studios); Finally today we managed to squeeze in the awesome Metafit Combat Matrix, a relentless series of exercises all crammed into a 30min workout!!

Your Metafit Combat Matrix exercises were;

Squat big knees
Leg defend
Take downs
Ball roll press
Pop-ups
Sprints
180 Jump press-ups

Each exercise was performed once on its own then we were into the Matrix, starting with Squat big knees we added an exercise each round till we had performed all seven back to back; we then turn the matrix on its head and counted it back down dropping one exercise each round finishing with the 180 jump press up. Strangely enough everyone seemed to enjoy it, especially once we finished!

Half-pipe workout next week; see you then or if you want more don’t forget our sessions on Wednesday’s am and pm.

Enjoy the sunshine; I’m off for a run followed by a swim and bike tomorrow

Rob

Kick the mid week blues!

Wednesday mornings for me are now a real highlight of the week, as at 09.15 I get to teach my Pilates Matwork Intermediate class. Those who attend know that the class will be challenging, yet we still have time to focus on that all important technique and even manage a few laughs along the way!

Those attending have all reached a good level of competence in their Pilates journey and are now ready to be taken to the next level, with the introduction of some more challenging exercises. Today we incorporated some classic moves from the Reformer repertoire into the Matwork sessions, increasing the emphasis on fluidity of movement that is so integral to those reformer exercises.

Hope you all enjoyed the class as much as I enjoyed teaching it; can’t wait till next week!

Happy training

Rob

If you’re interested in attending the class there are just a few spaces remaining, class time 09.15 Venue Bell Street Studios Reigate, call or email for further details; 01737 765335 rob@body-torque.co.uk

Metafit in a bucket!

Hi Just wanted to thank all of you guys who came to metafit on Saturday morning 07.50 class, some idiot (me) forgot to bring the stereo ! However with a little ingenuity we managed with a smart phone in a bucket to help magnify the sound; even so it was still a bit quite! This did give us a great opportunity to practise our Ninja skills, with soft landings on jumps brupee’s and light toes on the sprints. Well done to everyone and thanks again for your perseverance.

I want to write an article about metafit and Pilates the benefits of each and how they relate to each other, so I would welcome your thoughts and opinions of each and how you find they interact

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcDGrQaXVDo

Don’t forget to tell your friends and training partners about the benefits of metafit and I won’t forget to bring the stereo!

Enjoy your weekend
Rob
